2 months ago, I came to JIC in Baguio City,
hilippines, in order to study IELTS. In fact, while I was staying here, my
English skills have improved throughout all the subjects. However, compared to
writing, listening and reading, my speaking ability showed a minimal
improvement. I felt really frustrated and thought that this is because I spoke
my own native language in my dorm room or outside of the school. Even though
JIC has a strict English only policy (EO ) in the territory of the school,
still speaking English is required own students’ responsibilities and
voluntarily willing. Since I was preparing for real IELTS exam, my head
teacher, Ronald, strongly suggested that I should try a challenger program
which is an oath that I allowed to talk in English only regardless time and
place for 2 weeks, and if I succeed, I can get some money as a prize. Because
of the seriousness of my situation, I decided to become a challenger. Becoming
a challenger is a promise between yourself and others and honestly, it is not
easy. At least you have to avoid to be caught by others unless people around
you will report when you use other languages excepting English. Thankfully,
many of the IELTS students participated in the Challenger, so that I was able
to be successful and to some extent my speaking got better. Without their
support and cooperation, I would not have succeeded. Thank you guys! |
